Bhubaneswar: At a time when Union and state governments are struggling to contain Maoists, ruling Biju Janata Dal MP Siddhant Mohapatra would be playing the role of a Left-wing extremist leader in a forthcoming Oriya film.

Mohapatra, who defeated former Union minister and Congress candidate Chandrasekhar Sahu to become Berhampur MP last year, would be seen as Maoist area commander Digvijay in Swayamsidha movie likely to be released in the last week of April.Bengali actor Yukta and upcoming Oriya star Sunil Kumar are also in the movie. The film, shot in Maoist-hit Koraput district, will hit the screen when Operation Green Hunt, the anti-Maoist operation by security forces and Orissa police, will be in full swing in southern Orissa and parts of adjoining Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh.
A leading Oriya actor with over 100 films under his belt,Mohapatras decision to become a reel rebel, involved in training new recruits and engaged in violence, might ruffle feathers in political circles, especially considering the timing of the flick. But Mohapatra sees no wrong.I dont think there is anything wrong in me playing the role of a Maoist commander.I am after all an actor, he said, adding,The film focuses on how and why people take to extremism, but overall it is a balanced movie and has messages for both the extremists and the government. This, incidentally, would be Mohapatras first release since entering the Lok Sabha.
Though in the film the actor is seen promoting the ideology of violence as espoused by the rebels,Mohapatra personally does not subscribe to the Maoists view.I dont think violence can be the solution to anything in a country like India, which got Independence through non-violence.But Maoists opposition to exploitation has lot of merit, he told TOI.He said many terrorists were deviating from their ideology and said,I appeal to them not to get diverted from real issues. They should not target common people and sould come forward for talks without any pre-condition.
